A cricket captain is set to take part in an official world record attempt to play the game on Mount Everest.
According to a report publish in Wales Online website David Kirtley, 31, who is Cardiff Cricket Club's captain, is one of two Everest Test captains announced this week for Team Hillary and Team Tenzing – named after the first climbers to reach the summit in 1953.
The teams are aiming to raise £250,000 for charity by playing a 20-over cricket match at an altitude of 5,165 metres – five times higher than Pen-y-Fan in the Brecon Beacons.
Kirtley, who lives in Roath, Cardiff, and the brother of England star James Kirtley, has enlisted the support of Nottingham Forest Football Club fitness coach Ryland Morgans to get him into shape.
"For me it was an instant yes, it was a no-brainer," he said. "It's always a cliche, but it really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
"To be able to make a difference and take part in something like this is why we're doing it."
