Symonds deserves harsh punishment

There is nothing worse than walking out on teammates on the eve of a series. It shows he is a player who has turned his back on responsibility and ownership of his all-Australian image; it is the pusillanimous act of a fake. Read The Article

Simon Gar Reggie, not sure what Trevor''s profile has to do with the fact he was peddling inaccurate information as part of his thesis. And again, I realise it is his opinion, I was merely pointing out the flaws in some of his assumptions. I''m pretty comfortable that my 20 plus years of involvement with cricket at levels ranging from international to grassroots has me well qualified enough to offer my views on the subject. For the record, Andrew Symonds is a damn fine player and a decent bloke to boot, in my experience. Let''s hope he makes it back sooner rather than later. Lindsay The "Roy" moniker does not come from Roy Ring, it comes from basketball player Leroy Loggins. The infamous NatWest series incident similarly wasn''t in 1995. ( Posted: Monday , September 08, 2008 at 08:20 )
Emmveeyem It is a pity that Symonds is tending into get into the mold of Pakistan''s Shoaib Akhtar, when it comes to discipline and it is nipped in the bud. ( Posted: Thursday , September 04, 2008 at 23:56 )
Dilip Symonds is an absolute shame to the entire cricketing fraternity. He never understood the language of sportsman spirit like his skipper. To be honest many of the current Australian crickters are of this kind and the youngsters are bound to follow this.So they are spreading the virus and spreading them fast.Cricket is never a gentleman''s game from the Australian perspective.I would like to see a serious punishment ordered against his acts.To be known as great crickters you not only needs to play well but also should/must conduct yourself.Shame on you Symonds ( Posted: Thursday , September 04, 2008 at 22:45 )
Manoj Sharma I would liken Andrew Symonds to the tough and talented class bully. Just as the class bully, when made the class monitor/prefect sheds his wild side, I think Symonds too, should be made the Aussie skipper so that he realises the baggage(s) that come along with being tough & aggressive !!! Fancy an Aussie side led by Symmo.......;) ( Posted: Thursday , September 04, 2008 at 18:50 )
more Simon Gar Hi Joel, my information was taken from a pretty reliable source - his book that came out last year "Roy: Going For Broke". Trevor and your good self might enjoy seeking it out if you haven''t already read it. You''re right in that I don''t agree with the sentiment of the original article, frankly, it smacks of playing the man and not the ball, but it is the author''s right to express it. And it allows individuals like us to debate it, so it can''t be all bad! Enjoy your cricket too! ( Posted: Thursday , September 04, 2008 at 17:23 )
more Simon Gar Not sure where you get your info from Trevor but allow me to set you straight on a few things.

His nickname comes from his youth cricket days when a coach likened him to a leading basketballer in Australia at the time, Leroy Loggins (who was originally from America). It was soon shortened to "Roy", which he has gone by ever since.

The zinc cream on his lips stems from his days as a junior cricketer when he resorted to wearing it to prevent sunburn while playing in North Queensland. He has worn it ever since, and certainly isn’t the first cricketer to liberally apply sunscreen to his face.

You are entitled to your opinion of course, which the bulk of this article revolves around. Hope you manage to enjoy your cricket in the future.
