Mumbai: Former India Test player and Mumbai coach Praveen Amre said that spinners would hold the key on the upcoming tour of Bangladesh.
“When I last toured Bangladesh six years ago, the tracks there were slow and low and I think not much would have changed," Amre told Cricketnext.com here on Tuesday.
"The tracks should assist spinners from the third day itself and our spinners will hold the key. Leg-spinner Anil Kumble, with his vast experience, off-spinner Ramesh Powar, with his teasing flight and spin, and left-arm spinner Rajesh Pawar should be a handful against the Bangladesh batsmen,” he said.
“Because of the slow nature of the wicket, Bangladesh always field two to three spinners at home and with the Indians having three different types of spinners, they should cause a lot of doubts in Bangladesh batsmen’s minds,” Amre added.
When asked whether the absence of prolific run-getters Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly would have any effect on the outcome of the one-day series, Amre replied in the negative.
“The team has been picked with a mind for the future and the team should not feel their absence as the youngsters are quite talented. They should deliver the goods against Bangladesh despite the fact that we lost to them in the league stages of the World Cup,” said Amre, who scored a century on debut against South Africa.
The Indians will be playing the first of the three ODIs on May 10 while the team has already assembled in Kolkata for a short conditioning camp before departing to Bangladesh on May 7.
