Rain ends India-Australia match early

Bangalore: The opening One-Dayer between India and Australia was called off due to heavy rains at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday.
Set a huge target of 308 runs by the Australians for India to chase, rain stopped play with the hosts having already lost one wicket for nine runs in 2.4 overs.
Earlier, an exceptional knock of 130 by Michael Clarke guided Australia to 307-7.
Having decided to bat first on a hard pitch, Australia lost their top order early but a strong resistance by Clarke in the company of Brad Haddin boosted the total.
To start with, a fine spell from S Sreesanth on a placid pitch gave India the edge in the opening match of the seven-match Future Cup but then Clarke's 132-ball knock, which was studded with 10 fours and three sixes, enabled his team to put up a huge score as he added a valuable 144 with Haddin to take control of the situation.
The 26-year-old Clarke, who made a century on Test debut at this venue, once again stood up for his team and played some superb cricket, coming in a crisis situation and eventually put them in the driver's seat.
Chasing the target, India did not start with their regular opener Sourav Ganguly, who got injured and left the field during the first innings itself, instead Gautam Gambhir opened with Sachin Tendulkar.
But in the very second over, the Master Blaster got trapped lbw off Mitchell Johnson for a duck and just after that rain stopped play.
Earlier, till 20 overs, India conceded just 100 runs but then it seemed as if the Twenty20 World Champions didn't know what to do.
The next 30 overs belonged to Australia and even though they missed the experience of Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey, proved that they are still the emperors in the One-Day version of the game.
Australia lost two quick wickets in the form of opener Adam Gilchrist and Brad Hodge as new-ball bowlers Zaheer Khan and Sreesanth struck in quick succession to reduce them to 18-2 in 3.1 overs.
