New Delhi: BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla saw nothing wrong in Sudhir Nanavati, commissioned to inquire into the Harbhajan Singh-S Sreesanth slapgate, revealing his observations on the issue to the media and said the lawyer did not divulge any facts.
Nanavati's quotes to media when the inquiry was still on and a report in a national daily which said the video footage of the April 25 incident in Mohali showed Mumbai Indians coach Lalchand Rajput applauded when Harbhajan slapped Sreesanth had irked the BCCI.
"We should not make so much hue and cry about the issue. He has just made some observations and I don't think he has divulged the content of the report. The media was asking him questions and he was just responding to those," Shukla said.
Asked whether BCCI will take a tough stand against Harbhajan especially since he had already been suspended for 11 matches by the IPL governing body, Shukla said, "We have seen the IPL taking very tough decisions on many occasions, so for the moment we are waiting for the Nanavati report and depending on its recommendation we will take a stand".
Nanavati, an Ahmedabad-based lawyer probing the slapping row, will submit his inquiry report on the matter to Board President Sharad Pawar on Monday.
Shukla also refused to comment on reports that Rahul Dravid was constantly being pressurised by the UB group for the team's losses.
"There is no proof that he has said so, hence I can't comment on that. It is the matter between the franchise and the players and unless the matter is reported to the governing body, we can't do anything," he said.
Reacting to the suggestions made by the ICC on the Kanpur wicket, Shukla said, "The Board has accepted the suggestions and it will try to take care of the matter and see that in future matches don't end in 2-3 days," he said.
