Magician Muralitharan casts spell on jittery India

Some inept strokeplay and the Muttiah Muralitharan factor meant the Indian batting fell like a pack of cards on the third day of the first Test in Colombo on Friday. The off-spinner took four of the six wickets to fall as he ran through the visitors' famed batting line-up. In reply to Sri Lanka's 600-6 declared, India were 159-6 at stumps and are now staring at a follow-on which at this stage looks inevitable. Read The Article

Sunil Agarwal How many times have we seen this happen! First test match and Indian batting collapses. Yesterday was no exception. First, India let themselves down in the field and then, in some bizarre way, let the Sri Lankans get on top while batting. Seems that the hangover of T-20 still persists. I may be in the minority but IPL is actually going to ruin Indian Cricket. Mark my words, five years from now, we will struggle against any quality side, if we do not get our priorities right. BCCI is only interested in money and not the future of cricket in the country. ( Posted: Saturday , July 26, 2008 at 06:59 )
Sunil Vasudeva India''s sorry show on day three is no surprise. A former cricketer put it very well when he said that the Indians were among the poorest travelers in the sport. Now these pathetic losers can add Sri Lanka to their list of dreaded tours as well. What does that leave for India? Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. For a country that''s been at the game since the British Raj, this is truly a very very very sorry learning curve. They''ve learned nothing. The successors are even more inept than their predecessors. Is that what one calls progress? Team India is more like Con-gress which is the opposite of Pro-gress. They''ve gone from cho-kers to jo-kers. "Hey, wait a minute, now that''s progress isn''t it?" Ha Ha Ha! What a laughing stock these buggers are! ( Posted: Saturday , July 26, 2008 at 01:10 )
arijit hopeless performance... absolutely nothing is working for us,neither youngstars nor the experienced onces. ( Posted: Saturday , July 26, 2008 at 00:15 )
Ajith This is for all the Dhoni detractors.. I hope you all are enjoying the current condition of Indian team. We have indeed replaced Dhoni with a great keeper. Two Drop catches and a breath taking shot. Well done DK. Since everyone is hell bent on calling Dhoni a hype, please realise now that he is the best keeper and easily one of the better batsmen in our current team.. Anyways lets hope for the best in the second innings. ( Posted: Friday , July 25, 2008 at 21:05 )
Alex If you a set mammoth target and ask indians bat , they will choke 10 out 100 times. Because indians are passiove cricketers. Sachin is a choker under pressure. Great run accumulator though...once draw is on the cards..watch sachin to make century...hahaha. ( Posted: Friday , July 25, 2008 at 20:46 )
Rajiv The Indian team has forgotten the basics of Test Cricket. It is still not too late for BCCI to call off the tour rather than be humilated in Sri Lanka.
I think the team needs to be given some free tickets to the local disco.

Humayun I am sorry , but you cant expect to win test matches by putting in 7 batsmen. Thats a defensive approach and a negative mindset , like the great Imran Khan says you need to play as many specialists and should have the right balance of bowlers and batsmen in the team . Whats the point in playing 7 batsmen when the other team has piled up a score so mammoth that it almost shuts down the game from one end i.e. India`s side , they can only try to save this match at the best. And this match has so far shown the great void between Murli and Kumble , Kumble is only effective when conditions are favorable whereas Murli is a true master of the art. Throw him the ball and he will spin his magic on cement as well.

Kumble`s captaincy left a lot to be desired in the first innings , why were Sachin and Saurav not given the chance to bowl ? They could have done something different. ( Posted: Friday , July 25, 2008 at 18:15 )
Sunil Vasudeva Just as I had said yesterday, the sorry Indians would do a sorry job and they have proved me right. Perhaps Dhoni was smart and knew this series was going to be a carnage and wisely opted to stay out rather that have his Twenty20 success reputation smashed to pulp.
Hopefully Kirsten has a clause in his contract to opt out when the going gets tough. In fact, the going is always tough for these grossly overpaid, underperforming bunch. Wonder which book Kumble will be reading tonight? Maybe the title sounds like this, "How to make excuses and put the blame elsewhere." Tendulkar will score the 172 needed to overtake Lara in this test - what a joke! Lara was and will always be the better of the two by miles.
Tell these guys where the next commercial shooting is so they can be champions again in their ususal setting which is definitely not the cricket field. ( Posted: Friday , July 25, 2008 at 17:30 )

r.karthikeyan, samaraweera''s century and the assault that sri lanka gave to india in colombo proved indians have been foolish when bowling against hosts in abroad grounds because of their indecent activities they did when fielding against lankan lions.this shows that sri lankans applied a positive approuch against zaheer passing khan and ishant joking sharma and virender sword sehwag seems to enjoy movies in televisions by taking his baby to sri lanka to teaching his god lessons to ladies in lanka so that he goes for a jolly ride with them.
