Kumble pleased with Rest's fielding efforts

Vadodara: Not many captains in domestic cricket bother to compliment good fielding efforts but Rest of India skipper Anil Kumble said he was really pleased with the way his close-in fielders snapped up half chances to beat Ranji Trophy champions Delhi by a huge margin to win the Irani Cup on Saturday.
"Yes, catches always win matches and the boys were up to the mark today. I would say it was a great fielding effort by the side. We managed really some extraordinary catches which ultimately made a big difference to the outcome of the match," Kumble told reporters.
"I am satisfied with the overall performance of the team. A really good team effort. Bowlers did well and the batsmen also managed to spend some time out there, even though not all of them scored big. I'm happy with the way it went," he added.
Speaking about the wicket, which played a very important role in the match ending with still one and a half day's play left, Kumble admitted that the track was tricky and it was the first innings lead of 75 runs which tilted the balance in Rest of India's favour.
"The wicket was not conducive for stroke play. It was not those kind of wickets where you go out and play your shots. It was quite difficult and I think the 75-run first innings lead proved crucial in the end," the Indian skipper said.
Kumble also said he was impressed with the bowling of Delhi leg spinner Chetanya Nanda, who took eight wickets in the match, including those of Rahul Dravid and V V S Laxman.
