Mumbai: Australia's One-Day middle-order batsman and Victorian star David Hussey is confident that the inaugural Champions League to be held in India from September 29 to October 8 will benefit the youngsters immensely.
"Obviously it is a great opportunity for youngsters to showcase their talent in an event hailed as the biggest ever Twenty20 tournament for top clubs from four to five countries. The youngsters from club teams will get an opportunity to rub shoulders with famous international cricketers during the inaugural tournament," Hussey told the Aussie media on Thursday.
"It is good that the Champions League has become a reality. Teams like Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Western Australia, Victoria and other participating teams have many youngsters in their ranks. This will be the right stage to exhibit their talents as the Twenty20 has become very popular all over the world," he added.
Speaking about his dream of representing Australia in a full series in the Indian sub-continent for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Hussey said, he was really looking forward to this new challenge as playing in the sub-continent against reputed spinners was always a big task for any Australian youngster.
"It’s every cricketers dream to represent Australia in a full series against India and come good under difficult conditions.
"I look forward to the challenge of playing against some top class spinners in a Test series and in between wants to enjoy the flavour and the popularity of Twenty20 cricket as well," he added.
However, Hussey insisted that despite the lucrative incentives that the Twenty20 version of the game provides, his cricketing priorities remain the same.
"My point of view is I desperately want to play cricket for Australia in the Test match arena so for me, (my priorities have) definitely not (changed) ... I just want to play as much cricket as I possibly can," said Hussey.
"If I get an opportunity to play Test cricket for Australia, that's the ultimate for me. I know (Victorian captain) Cam White, we speak a lot about playing Test cricket, we both desperately want to represent Cricket Victoria in the Test match arena."
"If that came about that would be fantastic for us and we'd be more than happy to miss the Champions League to play Test cricket."
