This is the first initiative, I liked in last 5 yrs from Sanjay. This needs lot of rework (but it is understandble coming from Sanjay whose cricket concepts are very amature...) but it can beimplemented. I dont think Dave has any credentials to work towards it as individual but ICC should look at this strategy suggested by Sanjay as it addresses, the REAL Word champion title (test is the real cricket), if nothing else...Thanks Sanjay...your consistent efforts for last 5 yrs are making u little better at overall cricket knowledge....

It is the best concept i have come across yet and perhaps we can add a couple more things like making the first or the last test of the series the ''official'' towards the championship to remain consistent through out. One hindrance in having groups perhaps may lead to teams in different groups not being able to play against each other in the four year circle, that can be countered by not having the groups and having all the nine teams or may be only eight play against each other in an home and away format to decide the top four and the knock offs from there on.

what about ashes, will it be ok for Australia not to play England in the ashes if both the teams are in separate group, what if India finds itself in a different group than Australia, in today''s test cricket most competitive test series is between India and Australia will the four year season be interesting if both these teams don''t play each other or is this proposel completely isolated from the normal test tours, today Australia, India, England and south Africa would want to play each other most of the time other than this there is India and Pakistan there is New Zealand and Australia then there is srilanka and murali and every team would like to test themselves against murali and mendis then there is spinning indian wickets, bouncy australian wickets, swinging english wickets and so many interesting things, will it be ok if india wins against australia in the finals but looses to england and south africa in the preliminary stages then will we consider India as the world test champions. I think the WTC''ion should be winning against every other team and the point system that''s is being followed today is fair enough for the best team in the world.

If we get rid of the groups and have the top eight play against each other, all the series that exist at the moment can remain including the Ashes and the Gavasker Border trophy. Secondly like you mentioned if India wins the finals beating Australia having lost to others in the preliminaries, will it be alright? well, its highly unlikely that they would make it to finals if they loose too many games and to be the champion, a team would not need to win all the games but win enough to make it to top four and then win the crucial semis and the finals. The rankin system can remain active but the champion can be decided via this system which besides being fair will require teams to perform at crucial games to become a champion team.
